An independent, family run business, The Ploughman has been an institution in the village of Peterculter for decades. Originally built by publican Ned Brown, it was then taken over by Bill Coutts, before the previous owners Graeme & Shirley Wight took the reins running this cosy Scottish pub for an impressive 32 years. When the time came for them to move on, experienced restauranteur Simon Cruickshank and long-time friend Alistair Dornan knew they could give it the love and care it deserved and continue to welcome locals and visitors for quality local fare and good drink.
With decades of hospitality already under his belt — having started out in 1990 training with Gordon Nicoll at the Butchers Arms on George Street — Simon knows a thing or two about keeping customers happy, which combined with The Ploughman's rich history and authenticity is a winning combination.

With the finest local produce on our doorstop, how could we not? We aim to source close to home wherever possible. Our delicious mussels come direct from Blue Flag Seafoods and our haddock from Colin Fraser Ltd. Fresh from the boat to our door — what could be better?
